Christmas in a different way: I am happy that it cools down in the night because during the day it gets easily 27 degrees C!
On Christmasday Liz (other name for Joyce) took me to the service in the schoolchapel. Their school, St. Paul's Collegiate School, has a huge campus with eight houses for the boarding pupils. She showed me the school in which every house has its own space to relaxe or study. The classroooms are situated around a ..., almost all of them on groundlevel. I would like to teach there!
In the afternoon the three of us visited Hamilton Gardens. (https://hamiltongardens.co.nz/about-us/) It is a nice compilation of different garden designs.
On Boxingday (Dec. 26th) is a day of discount in many shops. So we went to look for a bike and some campingmaterials. In teh first shop I succeeded! I bought a blue beauty which is riding well, also when the motor is off. In the next days Liz will take me for some rides to get used to using the left part of the road! On Jan 3rd Liz and Jeff are going to take me up north and drop me off in Opua in the Bay of Islands, where I want to start my ride. The northern part of the Island is too big a challenge now, so I decide about that later. First I have to get some experience.
On Friday we went up north to the Coromandel Peninsula, where Anita, Liz'daughter is living together with her friend Billy. She is a photographer, he is a diver for a musselcompany. They harvest loads of tons of greenlipmussels every day. We had lunch together in Coromandeltown and made a really nice walk through a forest, just up the hill next to the see. We saw an old big Kauritree that escaped from being cut by the timbercompanies. Many new ones have been planted in this forest, next to other original species.
After that Liz and I drove to the eastcoast of the peninsula with its beautiful white beaches. We enjoyed playing in the waves. The water was very nice! It was really a day of being satisfied by all the impressions and beautiful views!
Have fun
